Server Rules
An 18+ DayZ RolePlay Community
v1.0 - March 2026
Welcome to AshBorne RolePlay! To guarantee a high-quality and deeply immersive roleplay experience for everyone, all members are expected to strictly follow the guidelines set out in this rulebook. Failing to abide by these standards will result in disciplinary action, which may include temporary or permanent removal from the community.
It is your personal responsibility to stay up-to-date with all the rules covering both our in-game server and our Discord. Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse. If you are ever unsure about a situation or need clarification, our staff team is always available in the Discord to help you out!
Note: All rule infractions and their resulting punishments are handled at the discretion of the AshBorne RolePlay Staff Team. We will always take the player’s underlying intentions and the context of the situation into account when reviewing a ticket.
AshBorne RolePlay is dedicated to fostering deep, realistic, and grounded storytelling.
The guidelines in this rulebook are not designed to limit your creativity or dictate how you must play. Instead, they exist to safeguard the immersive world we share and to respect the time players invest in crafting compelling narratives. Every rule serves a specific purpose: to ensure a consistent, fair, and trustworthy environment for our entire community.
At the core of AshBorne RolePlay is the belief that the best stories happen when players take accountability for their actions. In this character-driven space, your choices have real, lasting consequences. True immersion relies on mutual respect for the setting and a shared commitment to building a believable world together.
STRUCTURE NOT SCRIPTS
This rulebook cannot possibly cover every highly specific scenario, and it isn’t meant to. We provide the framework, not the script. When complex or unforeseen situations occur, we expect our members to exercise common sense, maturity, and good faith. We do not tolerate “rule-playing” or actively hunting for technical loopholes to exploit.
OUR EXPECTATIONS
Let’s be clear: AshBorne RolePlay is not a casual sandbox, nor is it a place to constantly test boundaries. By joining this community, you agree to interact with the world, your fellow players, and our staff in a way that prioritizes long-term storytelling and community health over quick thrills.
Our staff enforces these guidelines consistently, always taking the context of the situation into account. Our primary goal is never simply to punish; it is to preserve the integrity of the roleplay experience and keep the server running smoothly for those who respect it.
If you approach this server with genuine intent and a willingness to uphold our standards, you will find AshBorne to be a place where incredible stories unfold, conflicts hold real weight, and characters leave a lasting legacy.
Welcome to AshBorne RolePlay. Tell your story.
Core Philosophy: Mission, Vision, & The AshBorne Standard
These foundational pillars are the absolute bedrock of the AshBorne RolePlay experience.
They dictate how we moderate, how we play, and how our community evolves. These aren’t just words on a page; they are the strict filter for every single choice we make regarding the server.
Our mission
AshBorne RolePlay provides a definitive, high-stakes platform for mature storytellers.
Our primary objective is to cultivate an unforgiving yet deeply rewarding world where every choice carries permanent weight. We believe the pinnacle of roleplay is reached when players are empowered to explore complex ideologies, realistic survival, and profound character arcs.
This community is engineered for those who seek substance. We champion authentic interactions over chaotic shootouts, and intricate plotlines over fleeting moments of adrenaline.
We don’t rely on fabricated drama to force interaction. We provide the steady framework for players to naturally forge a world that feels incredibly alive.
Our vision
We are building a legacy defined by mutual respect, unwavering immersion, and narrative integrity.
In the world of AshBorne, gameplay is never dictated by out-of-character egos or a desire to “win” a scenario. Here, taking a loss or making a critical error is celebrated as a catalyst for incredible storytelling. There is ample room for both the quiet, slow-burn campfire conversations and the massive, high-tension conflicts.
Our focus is entirely on the quality of our community, not the quantity of our player base. We are creating a stable home where members know their time and creative energy are fiercely protected.
We don’t care about being the most populated server on the list. We care about being the most unforgettable one.
THE ASHBORNE STANDARD
“We maintain this environment so that every hour you spend here translates into a story worth telling.”
When we face difficult community choices, rule disputes, or high-tension scenarios, our staff relies on three fundamental questions to guide us:
- Does this decision enrich the server’s overarching narrative, or does it break immersion?
- Does this show profound respect for the dedication our players pour into their roleplay?
- Does this pave the way for long-term story development instead of a quick, temporary fix?
This is our ultimate filter. We operate on integrity, intent, and narrative value. Never out of ego, favouritism, or haste.
Welcome to AshBorne RolePlay.
The AshBorne RolePlay Discord is much more than just a chatroom. It is the out-of-character (OOC) backbone of our entire community. This is the space where narratives are planned, mutual trust is forged, and support is given.
We require every member to carry themselves with the exact same maturity and respect here as they do within the game. These policies apply universally across all text channels, voice chats, direct messages, and support tickets. Breaking these rules will result in warnings, temporary mutes, or permanent bans at the staff’s discretion.
3.1 Strict Zero Tolerance Policy
Any form of bigotry or discrimination will be met with immediate and harsh action. This absolutely includes:
- Racism
- Homophobia & Transphobia
- Misogyny or Sexism
- Ableism
- Religious Intolerance
There are no warnings for this behavior. If you are caught engaging in hate speech, you will be immediately removed from the community.
3.2 Harassment, Trolling, and Toxicity
We are here to collaborate, not to tear each other down.
- Do not belittle, target, or harass other members.
- Do not “rule-play” or weaponize our guidelines just to get another player in trouble.
- Do not attempt to guilt-trip, pressure, or manipulate the staff team.
- Understand that passive-aggressive behavior and “subtle” toxicity are still toxic. If you are a constant source of friction rather than a positive collaborator, you will be removed.
3.3 Proper Channel Usage
Help us keep the Discord clean, readable, and organized.
- Post memes and casual chatter in their designated channels.
- Keep all In-Character (IC) text strictly within the IC channels.
- Character Journals and Biographies belong solely to their creators. Do not type in another player’s journal.
- Direct all rule breaks, player reports, and support needs to the Ticket system. (Note: Occasional mistakes are fine, but constantly ignoring channel rules will lead to moderation).
3.4 The IC / OOC Boundary
The wall between In-Character and Out-of-Character must remain solid.
- IC conflicts must stay IC. Do not let your character’s anger bleed into your OOC interactions.
- OOC disagreements should be handled directly, privately, and respectfully—never through public gossip or passive-aggression in the general chats.
- You are fully allowed to hate a character. You are never allowed to disrespect the player behind the screen.
3.5 Ticket System Etiquette
The support ticket system is a tool for resolution, not a soapbox for endless arguing.
- Use tickets to: Report a player concern, request lost item compensation, ask for rule clarifications, or seek staff help if you feel unsafe.
- Do not use tickets to: Vent your frustrations, perform for an audience, or argue in circles with the moderation team.
- Keep your tickets concise, polite, and cooperative: Spamming the system or treating the staff like your enemy will result in your ticket access being revoked.
🎙️ 3.6 Voice Channel Conduct
Discord Voice Channels (VCs) are shared communal spaces. Access to them is a privilege, not a right.
- Do not scream, talk over others, or completely derail ongoing conversations.
- Never use a VC to escalate an OOC argument.
- Do not use VCs to corner, ambush, or bombard staff members with complaints. If you have an issue, open a ticket.
3.7 Real-World “Hot Topics”
AshBorne RolePlay is an escape from reality. It is not a battleground for real-world debates. While we celebrate the diverse backgrounds of all our players, we must protect the unified space that brings us together. Therefore, deeply polarizing “hot topics” are strictly forbidden in our Discord.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Modern-day politics and elections.
- Controversial social issues (e.g., gun rights, abortion, deeply religious debates).
- Ongoing real-world tragedies, wars, or polarizing news events.
These conversations almost always spiral out of control and fracture community trust. If a conversation starts leaning toward these topics, drop it immediately. It is perfectly fine to say, “Let’s not discuss this here.” If you are unsure if a topic is too heavy for the general chat, err on the side of caution and do not post it. Keep the real world out of our shared space.
3.8 Foster the Community
Every single message you send either builds this community up or chips away at its foundation. You are part of a collective. Ensure your presence makes AshBorne a better, more welcoming place for everyone else to enjoy.
AshBorne RolePlay thrives on cooperative, narrative-driven gameplay. While we offer immense creative freedom to our players, that freedom requires a high level of accountability.
The core values listed below set the standard for how our members must conduct themselves—both in-character (IC) and out-of-character (OOC). These aren’t mere recommendations; they are enforceable standards used by our staff to moderate behavior, settle disputes, and protect the culture of our server.
1.1 The Narrative Over the Ego
Your character exists to enhance the overarching plot, not to feed your personal desire to “win.”
- Design characters with realistic flaws and genuine depth.
- Make choices that heighten narrative suspense rather than seeking the easiest or safest way out.
- Absolutely no “play-to-win” mentality or min-maxing your stats and loot.
- Before acting—whether you are building a compound or betraying an ally—ask yourself: Does this make the story better for everyone, or does it only benefit me?
1.2 The Human Behind the Screen
Never forget there is a real person operating the character opposite you.
- Utilize OOC communication if a scenario begins to feel overly intense or uncomfortable.
- Explicit consent is mandatory before engaging in dark, triggering, or severely heavy roleplay themes.
- Be completely open to pausing or rolling back a scene if boundaries are crossed.
- Our goal is to craft compelling fiction, never to inflict genuine emotional distress.
1.3 Share the Spotlight
This universe is a shared canvas. Your roleplay should always open doors for others to join in.
- Create opportunities for fellow players to contribute meaningfully to a scene.
- Don’t hog the center stage during major story arcs.
- Even if you are playing an antagonist, your actions should invite interaction and a response, not just shut other players down.
- Being the main character of your own story doesn’t mean treating others like background extras.
1.4 Cultivate the Culture
You are actively shaping the environment of this server every time you log in.
- Handle disagreements with maturity and grace.
- Go out of your way to guide and integrate new players into the fold.
- Settle OOC and IC conflicts with a level head and mutual respect.
- How you carry yourself when tensions are high defines your true value to this community.
1.5 Lift Up Your Fellow Roleplayers
AshBorne is at its best when we actively support each other’s creative visions.
- Embrace failure; losing a scenario often creates the best roleplay.
- Set up epic moments for other people to shine, not just yourself.
- Recognize and praise the incredible roleplay efforts of your peers.
- Exceptional RP is built on mutual connection and collaboration, never on dominating the server.
Enforcement Notice: These principles are strictly enforced. Consistently ignoring these core tenets—especially through selfish, toxic, or gatekeeping behavior—will result in immediate disciplinary action, even if a highly specific, written rule wasn’t technically broken.
These baseline standards apply to every single member of AshBorne RolePlay, during every session, regardless of your character’s background or your personal playstyle.
These are not loose guidelines or polite requests—they are the strict behavioural requirements that allow our server to function. If you are unwilling or unable to meet these standards, you will not succeed in this community.
2.1 Constant Immersion (Stay In-Character)
Whenever you are connected to the server, you are In-Character (IC). There are no exceptions.
- Voice Comms: You must use the in-game voice chat at all times. Sitting in private Discord calls while playing on the server is strictly prohibited, even if you are just base-building or looting with your faction.
- No IRL Talk: Never discuss real-world topics (PC hardware, schedules, Discord drama, or other servers) over voice chat.
- OOC Emergencies: If an absolute out-of-character (OOC) emergency arises, use the proximity text chat with brackets
((like this))and keep it as brief as possible. - Staff actively monitor the server. If you are caught silently playing during active scenarios or consistently breaking immersion, you will be penalized. Protect the immersion of the world fiercely.
2.2 Purpose-Driven Actions
Your character does not have to be a hero, but their actions must make logical sense.
- Every decision you make should be rooted in your character’s established personality, backstory, and current motivations.
- We do not tolerate random violence, chaotic “trolling,” or actions done “just because.” Your choices must serve the narrative.
- If staff review a situation and determine your actions lacked any consistent motive or RP value, you may face restrictions or be forced to alter your character. High-quality roleplay requires thought, not impulse.
2.3 Share the Scene (Do Not Steamroll)
AshBorne is a collaborative storytelling space, not a competitive PvP sandbox. Every player has a right to participate in the narrative.
- Do not talk over people, monopolize conversations, or bulldoze scenes. Let the RP breathe.
- No Power-Emoting: You cannot force an action upon another player without giving them a chance to react or consent.
- Even if your character is a ruthless villain, your RP should act as an invitation for others to respond, not a wall that shuts them down. Roleplay is about building a scene together, not “winning” the interaction.
2.4 Acknowledge Consequences
You are part of a living world, and that world should leave a mark on your character.
- You are expected to react realistically to severe trauma, major injuries, betrayals, and the loss of friends. Let these events change your character’s demeanor and choices.
- While you are not forced to permanently kill (perma) your character, they must evolve.
- If you repeatedly survive horrific disasters but act exactly the same as before—treating the server like a generic respawn simulator—staff will intervene.
2.5 Consent is Mandatory
High-stakes storytelling requires ultimate OOC trust. Collaboration is non-negotiable.
- Before initiating scenes involving permanent alterations, extreme violence, severe trauma, long-term captivity, or highly sensitive subject matter, you must secure OOC consent from the involved parties.
- If you are planning a massive narrative shift that directly impacts another group, communicate with them beforehand.
- We value cooperative storytelling over cheap shock value. Forcing heavy themes without consent will lead to immediate retcons and staff action.
2.6 Clean Up Your Messes
Your narrative responsibilities do not vanish when you hit disconnect.
- If you start a storyline, see it through to the end or leave clear breadcrumbs for others to follow.
- If you raid a compound, leave a calling card, clues, or evidence that someone was there.
- Do not initiate massive conflicts and then ghost the server. If you must step away from an arc or decide to retire a character, communicate this OOC or wrap it up nicely IC. Do not leave narrative dead-ends for other players to clean up.
2.7 Age Restrictions
AshBorne RolePlay is strictly an 18+ community. We mandate this to ensure the emotional maturity required for heavy roleplay themes.
- Under 16: No exceptions. You will not be permitted to play here.
- Exceptions (Ages 16-17): We allow highly vetted 16- or 17-year-olds only if they open a support ticket and provide their exact age alongside a formal vouch from a trusted AshBorne community sponsor. This sponsor shares full responsibility for your actions; if you break the rules, both of you face the consequences.
- Deception: Lying about your age or bypassing the ticket process will result in an immediate, unappealable permanent ban.
- Character Age: Every IC character must be 18 or older. Child characters are not permitted.
2.8 Originality & Respectful RP
We encourage dark, complex, and morally grey storytelling, but this is never an excuse for OOC toxicity, laziness, or real-world harm.
- No Real-World Copies: Do not directly copy real-world politicians, historical regimes, terrorist organizations, or copyrighted IP. Build your own lore within the AshBorne universe.
- No Shock-Baiting: The use of racial/homophobic slurs, trauma-baiting, or relying on real-world suffering to make your RP “edgy” is strictly prohibited. If your roleplay only works by making people uncomfortable OOC, it does not belong here.
- Masking OOC harassment as “just what my character would do” will be punished as standard harassment. If you are ever unsure where the line is, open a staff ticket before acting.
AshBorne is an international community, but to ensure fair moderation and cohesive storytelling, English must be the primary language used both IC and OOC.
- You may absolutely use brief phrases in other languages to add cultural flavor to your character.
- However, you cannot use a foreign language to exclude others from a scene, hide motives, or bypass IC communication.
AshBorne RolePlay is a strictly voice-operated, deeply immersive storytelling environment. Our world is built upon the conversations we have, the actions we take, and how we navigate the harsh realities of DayZ.
This is not a server where you play to “win.” This is a stage where your character survives, struggles, builds, and inevitably loses—and where every one of those moments carries weight. You do not need to be a professional voice actor, but you absolutely must bring creativity, consistency, and a profound respect for the world we share.
These guidelines are not optional; they are the mandatory baseline for every player.
4.1 Protecting Immersion (The Bubble)
Immersion is incredibly fragile. Once the illusion is broken, the scene is ruined for everyone involved. You must fiercely protect the “bubble” of the world.
- No Meme Culture: Absolutely no TikTok references, movie quotes, modern internet slang, or out-of-place jokes.
- No Hot-Micing OOC Audio: Keep your background quiet. We should not hear your Spotify playlist, your mechanical keyboard, or your roommates through your microphone.
- Stay Serious: Do not break character, giggle, or act disruptive during tense, serious RP scenes.
- Turning a serious narrative moment into a sandbox for trolling will result in immediate removal.
4.2 Metagaming (OOC Knowledge)
Metagaming is the act of using Out-Of-Character (OOC) information to dictate your In-Character (IC) actions. It destroys fairness and entirely invalidates the story. It is strictly forbidden.
- You cannot act on information you read in Discord, saw on a Twitch stream, or read in a character bio.
- You cannot log onto the server just because your friend messaged you on Discord saying your base is being raided.
- You cannot use third-party apps (Discord, TeamSpeak) to communicate tactical information while in-game. There is no such thing as a “secure third-party radio.”
- The Golden Rule: If your character did not physically see it, hear it, or learn it in-game, they do not know it.
4.3 Powergaming (Forcing Outcomes)
Powergaming is forcing a narrative outcome in your favour by ignoring fairness, game mechanics, or the physical limits of reality. It robs other players of their agency.
- Combat Logging: Logging out to escape a gunfight, capture, or robbery is an instant ban.
- Glitch Abuse: Exploiting base-building mechanics or terrain to gain an impossible advantage.
- Scene Hijacking: Dictating what happens to another player without giving them a chance to react (e.g., “I tie your hands so tight you can’t move” instead of “I attempt to tie your hands”).
4.4 God-Moding (Invincibility)
Your character is a human being, not an immortal superhero. God-moding is refusing to let the world affect you.
- You must roleplay your injuries. If you get shot in the leg, you cannot immediately sprint away like nothing happened.
- You cannot consistently “win” every social, physical, or emotional encounter.
- You must exhibit normal human responses to pain, suffering, and exhaustion. If nothing in this brutal world leaves a scratch on you, you belong on a PvP server, not here.
4.5 Value of Life (Fear RP / NVL)
No Value of Life (NVL) occurs when you treat your character’s life like a disposable asset because you know you can just respawn.
- You cannot laugh, taunt, or act tough when a loaded gun is pointed at your head.
- You cannot charge blindly into a heavily armed compound with a melee weapon and no tactical plan.
- Even the most hardened survivors feel fear. You must roleplay self-preservation and a genuine fear of death when the stakes are high.
4.6 The New Life Rule (NLR) & Amnesia
If your character sustains enough damage to die and respawn, the New Life Rule goes into immediate effect:
- The 30-Minute Cooldown: You may not return to the area where you died, or the active scene, for at least 30 minutes.
- Amnesia: You completely forget the events that led to your death (who killed you, how you died, and why).
- Exception: Environmental deaths (starving, freezing, falling off a ladder) are exempt from NLR.
- Memory Fragments: You may retain a single, vague sensory detail from right before you died (e.g., a thick accent, the colour of a jacket, or a specific phrase). You may not remember specific identifiers like armbands or names. This is meant to spark RP paranoia, not to be used as an excuse to immediately hunt down your killer.
4.7 Play to React, Not Just to Act
Elite roleplay is a two-way street. It is about how you respond to others, not just what you say.
- Do not dominate scenes with endless, self-serving monologues.
- Allow silence and tension to build naturally.
- Actively listen to the people around you and incorporate their actions into your responses. Leave room for others to breathe, and they will do the same for you.
4.8 Respect the Lore
AshBorne RolePlay is not a generic zombie sandbox. It is an established universe with its own history, factions, and ongoing conflicts.
- Acknowledge the server’s specific lore and let it shape your character’s worldview.
- Avoid bringing in concepts, references, or behaviour's that completely break the tone of the AshBorne universe.
- When server-wide broadcasts happen or lore events occur, react to them IC. You are a citizen of this world; act like it.
Violence and fear are vital components of the AshBorne RolePlay universe. However, if your aggression does not serve the overarching narrative, it does not belong here.
We allow for high-stakes betrayals, robberies, and murder. But this freedom is heavily structured. You are not here to farm loot, click heads, or “win” a gunfight. Every bullet fired and every hostage taken must be rooted in creating tension, driving the story forward, or enforcing a consequence. Pulling the trigger should always be your last resort.
If you just want to play DayZ as a survival shooter, this is not the server for you.
5.1 Proper Initiation (Make It Count)
Hostile RP begins the exact moment you threaten another player. If you fail to initiate properly, the entire scene is completely invalid and will be treated as Random Deathmatch (RDM).
A Valid Initiation MUST Include:
- A clear, realistic, and specific demand that the target can actually follow.
- A direct physical threat (e.g., a weapon drawn and aimed).
- Sufficient time for the target to process the demand and react/comply.
Invalid Initiations (Considered RDM):
- Aiming a weapon in silence and expecting the person to comply.
- Screaming vague phrases like “Back off!” or “Hands!” without giving a consequence or context.
- Speaking and immediately pulling the trigger before the person can even process your words.
- Initiating from so far away that the target cannot clearly hear you.
- Initiating over a radio frequency.
Group Initiation & Armbands: If you are initiating as a group, every member involved must be wearing a matching, clearly visible identifier (like an armband). You cannot swap or hide these identifiers mid-combat to confuse players. If your group is not clearly identifiable, you cannot legally defend them.
5.2 No Kill On Sight (KOS)
Kill On Sight is strictly prohibited on AshBorne RolePlay, with one specific exception.
You cannot kill a player without a valid verbal initiation (See 5.1). Random, unexplained violence destroys immersion and will result in an immediate ban.
- You cannot snipe people from a distance.
- You cannot shoot someone just because “they looked suspicious” or you were feeling paranoid.
- If you are ever unsure if you are allowed to shoot—do not shoot. Talk first.
Note: Firing back in self-defense is not KOS. If you are actively being shot at or a gun is already drawn on you with clear intent, you may defend yourself without initiating.
The Single KOS Zone Exception: There is exactly one officially designated KOS site on the map.
- You will receive an automatic on-screen notification the moment you cross the boundary into this area.
- To ensure intense, tactical fairness, entering this zone will automatically force your camera into First-Person view (if you are playing in Third-Person).
- Inside this specific boundary, and only inside this boundary, you may engage targets without verbal initiation. Once you step outside of it, standard initiation rules immediately apply again.
5.3 Serial Violence & Disruption
You are allowed to play a ruthless, militant, or chaotic character, but that behavior must have narrative depth. If your character’s only contribution to the server is robbing and shooting people—especially passive players or new arrivals—staff will intervene. If you create an environment where other players avoid you OOC because you offer no roleplay value other than a gunfight, you will be removed from the community. Violence must have a buildup, a motive, and an emotional consequence.
5.4 Territory Enforcement
Groups may claim territory, but that land must be actively enforced through roleplay, not just bullets.
- You cannot claim territory simply by posting in Discord or drawing lines on a map. You must have a physical presence (patrols, bases, signage).
- No “KOS Zones”: Outside of the one official server KOS site, you cannot declare the area around your base a “shoot-on-sight” zone. If someone trespasses, you must initiate, interrogate, or intimidate them first. Snipe a trespasser without a word, and you will be banned for RDM. You are a character, not a landmine.
5.5 Respecting Surrender
If a player chooses to surrender to your demands, that vulnerability must be met with roleplay.
- You cannot accept a surrender and then immediately execute the person anyway just because “your character is crazy” or “they shot at us earlier.”
- A surrendered player should be robbed, interrogated, or taken hostage. Give them a scene. Dead men tell no tales, and they provide zero roleplay.
- Executions of surrendered players are generally reserved for approved Character Kills (CKs).
5.6 The Rule of Ten (Group Limits)
To prevent overwhelming zergs from shutting down RP, any hostile group operating outside of their own base is capped at a maximum of 10 active players.
- A roaming, raiding, or ambushing squad cannot exceed 10 members.
- The defending group (the ones being attacked) may exceed 10 only if they did not start the fight.
- All 10 members must wear matching armbands and be actively involved from the start (no logging in late to join the shootout).
5.7 Hostile RP is Subject to Staff Review
AshBorne operates on accountability. We highly recommend using recording software (like OBS or Shadowplay) for all hostile encounters.
If your hostile action is reported or results in a major character death, staff will ask you to justify it.
- What was your character’s exact motive?
- How did this violence push the server’s narrative forward?
- If your answer is “I was bored,” “I wanted his gun,” or “It was fun,” you will be disciplined.
5.8 Final Word on Hostile Roleplay
We are not interested in writing 500 hyper-specific rules to script your gunfights. We are interested in building a world where choices matter. Play a dangerous character. Start a faction war. Be the villain of the server. But when you pull that trigger—make it count.
6. Character Permadeath (CK) Policy
On AshBorne RolePlay, the vast majority of in-game deaths are treated as critical injuries. Your character blacks out, is theoretically rescued, and eventually wakes up in a medical facility with hazy memories and lasting physical scars. You survive, but the world takes its toll.
However, some storylines demand a definitive, permanent conclusion. This is known as a Character Kill (CK). When a CK occurs, that character’s arc is over forever. This section dictates exactly how and why a character can be permanently removed from the narrative.
6.1 What Qualifies as a Character Kill?
A CK is the intentional, narrative-driven execution of a character. It is never the result of a random shootout, a car crash, or bad luck. It is a planned storytelling event.
To forcefully CK another player, you MUST have an approved staff ticket. Valid justifications for a CK include:
- A highly significant execution with massive narrative weight.
- The culmination of a long-standing ideological, political, or emotional conflict.
- A deep-rooted betrayal or revenge arc that has been built up over time.
- A mutual OOC agreement between players to wrap up a storyline.
- Staff-Mandated CKs: Staff reserves the right to forcibly CK characters who repeatedly display No Value of Life (NVL) by treating the server like a respawn simulator.
6.2 The CK Request Process
If you wish to forcefully end another player’s story, you must open a CK Request ticket. Senior Staff will review the narrative build-up and respond within 48 hours.
Responses will be one of the following:
- Approved: You will be given specific guidelines, caveats, and a timeframe to execute the hit.
- Denied: Staff will provide a clear explanation as to why the narrative doesn’t support a CK yet.
- Deferred: Staff requires more context or an additional 24 hours to review the history. (If staff fails to respond within 48 hours, the ticket will be automatically escalated to top leadership).
6.3 Self-CKs & Player Collaboration
You have the absolute right to CK your own character at any time. You do not need staff permission to end your own story, but you must open a ticket beforehand so we can properly log the death in our database.
We highly encourage players to collaborate OOC to plan out epic, cinematic endings for each other. If both parties agree to a CK, staff will almost always fast-track the approval and can even assist in facilitating the scene. (Note: Once staff-approved, surprise/shock CKs are also entirely valid. Coordinated storytelling is great, but a well-earned ambush is just as effective).
6.4 The Aftermath of a CK
Once an approved CK is carried out in-game, the following steps must be taken immediately:
- Submit Evidence: The killer must upload video evidence (showing the build-up, the execution, and the immediate aftermath) into their open CK ticket. Staff will review the footage to ensure RP quality and officially log the death.
- No Appeals: Once a CK is approved and executed, it is final.
- Start Fresh: The victim must create a completely brand-new character with a new name, voice, and personality. Your new character retains zero memories, assets, or base codes from their past life.
- The 30-Day Cooldown: To prevent “revenge” characters, your new character may not join, ally with, or associate with your previous faction for 30 real-life days (unless explicitly exempted by staff in a ticket). Attempting to silently infiltrate your old storylines will result in severe administrative action.
6.5 Evading a Character Kill
If a CK has been approved against your character and you attempt to dodge it, the consequences will be severe. Evasion includes:
- Refusing to log onto the server to stall the inevitable.
- Using an alt account or game mechanics to sidestep the death.
- Creating a “clone” of your dead character (same personality, new name) to instantly rejoin your old group.
Attempting to evade a CK will result in a total back-end wipe of your character, forced removal from all storylines, and potential permanent bans. We protect the weight of consequence fiercely.
10. Compounds & Raiding
On AshBorne RolePlay, constructing a base is about establishing your footprint in the world, not hoarding assets. A fortress must generate roleplay and serve a narrative purpose.
Because of this, raiding is treated as a major server event. It is not a casual loot-run. Breaking into a home should shift the balance of power, spark long-term vendettas, and create incredible stories. Your goal as a raider is to leave a narrative impact, not just to empty crates.
10.1 Compound Classifications & Limits
A base is defined as any structure that has been fortified (walls, gates, locks) to claim territory.
-
Primary Base Limit: Solos and groups are permitted exactly one primary fortified base.
-
Storage Protocol: To maintain realism, Codelocks are strictly prohibited on all storage containers (crates, tents, lockers, etc.). If a raider gains physical access to your storage, they can open it. Lock your doors, not your boxes.
-
Outposts: Registered Factions are allowed one small forward outpost. If the faction expands into a Settlement, the outpost must be dismantled.
-
Note: Using alternate accounts to bypass building limits or create "ghost stashes" will result in a permanent ban.
10.1.1 Security Limits (Codelocks)
Security is defined by access points (Gates and Doors). Codelocks are strictly prohibited on storage containers. Total allowed locks are determined by your group size as follows:
| Tier | Group Size | Max Codelocks |
| Solo Survivor | 1 Player | 3 Locks |
| Duo | 2 Players | 3 Locks |
| Official Group | 3 Players | 4 Locks |
| Additional Members | 4 to 9 Players | +1 Lock per person |
| Settlement | 10+ Players | 10 Base + 1 per Settler |
-
The Group Threshold: The transition from a Duo to an Official Group (3 players) is the requirement to begin expanding base security beyond the 3-lock limit.
-
The Absolute Cap: No single compound or faction base may exceed 10 Codelocks total, regardless of size (excluding approved Settlements).
-
Redundancy Rule: No entry path may be airlocked more than 3 gates deep. Access must remain navigable for roleplay scenes.
11. Factions and Settlements
In the wastes of AshBorne, your standing is determined by your organization. While anyone can travel in a group, only those who Register are recognized as Factions by the Overseers.
11.1 The Group vs. Faction Distinction
-
Groups (Unregistered): Collections of 2 to 4 players. These are considered Survival Bands. They follow the standard 3-lock limit until they reach 3 members, at which point they are granted a 4th lock. Groups do not receive official Discord tags or lore recognition.
-
Factions (Registered): A group of 5 or more players that has been formally approved via application. Registration unlocks official territory claims, a private Discord category, and the ability to scale security up to the 10-lock cap.
11.2 The Settlement Tier (10+ Members)
A Settlement is the highest level of civilization in AshBorne. These are permanent hubs that house large populations.
11.2.1 Settlement Building Rights
Settlements are the only groups permitted to bypass the 10-lock compound cap:
-
Perimeter Security: The Settlement as a whole is granted 10 Codelocks for main gates and communal areas.
-
Private Housing: Each registered resident is permitted 1 personal Codelock for their own individual home or room within the settlement walls.
-
Storage: Codelocks on crates, tents, and lockers remain strictly forbidden.
11.3 Faction and Settlement Requirements
To maintain Registered status, a Faction must:
-
Maintain at least 5 active members.
-
Provide a unique Armband Color for identification.
-
Submit all Steam IDs for the roster.
-
For Settlements: Provide a public roleplay utility such as a trader, medical clinic, or tavern.
11.4 How to Register
Only the Faction Lead should submit the application. Ensure you have the Steam IDs for all founding members ready before applying.
11. Factions & Settlements
In the Ashborne wasteland, strength is found in numbers. Whether you are a small band of survivors carving out a name or a growing community aiming to restore order, your influence is measured by your adherence to the laws of the land.
11.1 Official Factions (Tier 1)
Requirements for Recognition: To be recognized as a Power in the region and claim territory, a group must meet the following criteria:
- The Vanguard: Maintain a minimum of 5 active members.
- The Chronicle: Submit shared lore and background in the Faction Biographies channel.
- The Intent: Define a clear objective (e.g., Trade, Mercenary work, or Ideological Control).
- The Flag: Establish a physical base of operations within the world.
- The Seal: Open a Staff Ticket to request official approval.
Faction Perks: Status is a privilege, not a right. Approved factions unlock:
- Identity: Access to custom vanilla armbands featuring your group’s colours.
- Presence: A custom vanilla flag to fly over your stronghold.
- Construction: The ability to quest for 2 Admin-Placed Buildings.
- Note: These are earned. You must gather a specific list of materials as a “quest” to pay for construction. No freebies.
🏘️ 11.2 Settlements (Tier 2)
Requirements for Advancement: When a faction reaches 10 active citizens, they may apply for Settlement Status. A settlement must be a hub for the wider community, not just a private fortress.
- Demographics: At least 5 citizens must be independent (not part of the founding faction).
- Infrastructure: You must maintain a functional Town Hall and a communal Armory.
- The Open Gate Policy: Settlement gates must remain open to the public unless the town is under an active, approved raid.
- The Map: Submit a ticket to have a Map Marker placed to guide new survivors to your hub.
Settlement Perks:
- Expansion: 3 additional Admin-Placed Buildings (5 buildings total for the location).
- Note: These additional structures must serve a public roleplay function (e.g., a Tavern, Clinic, or Trading Post) and cannot be used for private faction storage.
- Regional Lore: Settlements become the focal point for Event Team storylines and Order interactions.
⚖️ 11.3 Accountability & The “Three Strikes” Rule
Your group is only as honourable as its weakest member. Misconduct by one reflects upon the whole.
- The Strike System: Rule violations by any member may result in a Faction Strike.
- Dissolution: At 3 Strikes, the group loses all perks, flags, and admin-placed structures.
- Redemption: Strikes expire after 90 days of clean behaviour.
- Appeals: Leaders may appeal a strike by demonstrating clear corrective action taken against the offending member.
12. Miscellaneous Provisions
Not every system requires its own dedicated chapter, but the following rules are essential for maintaining server stability, immersion, and fair play. These are the final “anchors” that keep the AshBorne experience grounded.
12.1 Strict Vehicle & Vessel Regulations
AshBorne is a world of scarcity. To ensure server performance and prevent “wealth hoarding,” we enforce zero-tolerance limits on assets.
- Solo Survivors: Limit of 1 functional asset (Land OR Water).
- Registered Factions: Absolute limit of 2 functional assets total.
- Approved Settlements: May maintain up to 3 communal assets to serve the civilian population.
The Anti-Hoarding Clause: If staff discovers “stashed” or “tucked” vehicles intended to bypass these limits, they will be deleted immediately. Living together makes you a group; you do not get to claim “solo” limits while sharing a base.
12.2 The Overseers (NPC Factions) & Power Balance
Certain “Overseer” factions exist as manifestations of the world’s natural order. They ensure no single group becomes a stagnant, unopposed monopoly. If a group becomes excessively powerful or disruptive without providing quality roleplay, the Overseers may intervene IC:
- Stage 1: Ominous warnings or intercepted radio transmissions.
- Stage 2: Targeted sabotage or precision strikes on outposts.
- Stage 3: Full-scale ideological warfare. You can resist. You can fight back. But know that the world itself will react if you stop contributing to the story.
12.3 Technical Limitations & Compensation
DayZ is an imperfect engine. The following are “Use at Your Own Risk”:
- The “Door” Glitch: Do not drop items near modded doors; they may fall through the map. No compensation provided.
- Physics Deaths: Compensation for “flying cars” or boat glitches requires clear video evidence. No video = no replacement.
- Server Instability: Lost gear during announced maintenance or active server crashes is the player’s responsibility.
12.4 The In-Character (IC) Discord Radio
To post in the Discord Radio channel, your character must physically possess a functional radio and a battery in-game.
- Allowed: Brief IC check-ins, trade meets, distress calls, and rumors.
- Forbidden: Hostile initiations, OOC flaming, or “keyboard warrior” toxicity.
- Identity: You may use one (1) consistent codename known by others in-game.
12.5 Event Characters & NPC Encounters
Rules of Engagement: Players are permitted to engage and Kill on Sight (KOS) characters wearing designated Event Armbands. These characters represent specific world threats, high-value targets, or narrative NPCs.
-
Clothing & Armor: All clothing and armor worn by an Event NPC features a "Self-Destruct" mechanism. Upon the NPC's death, these wearable items will automatically ruin, yielding zero usable loot.
-
Weapons: Unlike clothing, weapons held or carried by an Event NPC do not ruin upon death and are fully lootable by the victor.
-
Inventory Loot: Any items found within the NPC’s internal inventory (backpacks, pockets, or pouches) do not ruin and are fully lootable.
-
The Golden Rule: You are strictly forbidden from removing an Event Armband from a living NPC character. Doing so results in an immediate 3-day suspension.
8. Staff Discretion & Community Trust
Guidelines exist to protect the collective experience, not to stifle individual creativity.
At AshBorne RolePlay, we do not view our rulebook as a legal penal code. Instead, we see it as a framework for a shared narrative. In a world with blurred edges and heavy consequences, not every situation has a simple “black or white” answer. Sometimes an action is technically allowed but feels wrong for the story; other times, a technical “infraction” might actually be a moment of incredible roleplay. This is where staff discretion becomes essential.
8.1 Staff as Narrative Guardians
Our staff members are roleplayers first. They weren’t chosen for their ability to say “no,” but for their ability to understand “why.” When reviewing any situation, our team focuses on:
- Intent over Action: We look at what you were trying to achieve, not just the raw mechanics of what happened.
- Context over Technicality: We consider the history and build-up of the scene, not just the final result.
- Coaching over Punishment: Our goal is to mentor and guide. We would much rather help you understand our world better than simply issue a penalty.
If you are approached by staff, it isn’t an interrogation—it’s a conversation. We may offer a reminder, a warning, or ask you to adjust your approach, but it is always done with the goal of helping you grow as a storyteller.
8.2 A Mutual Standard of Respect
Our staff is committed to being neutral, fair, and professional with every player. In return, we expect players to remain calm, honest, and respectful when a ticket is opened or a situation is reviewed.
A staff inquiry is not an attack on your character; it is a tool used to maintain the server’s integrity. We listen before we judge, and we aim to understand before we act. When everyone enters a discussion looking to learn rather than to “win” an argument, the community wins.
8.3 The Burden of Trust
As a player here, you are not a problem to be managed—you are a co-creator of this universe. We trust you with the health of this server. That trust means:
- If a creative risk fails, we will discuss your motivations before we critique the outcome.
- If you make a mistake regarding the rules, we will prioritize teaching over discipline.
- If you approach the team with humility and transparency, we will meet you with the same.
We do not expect flawless execution of every rule. We expect thoughtful participation and a genuine desire to contribute to a healthy RolePlay culture.
8.4 Evolution Through Collaboration
AshBorne is a living, breathing entity. As the community shifts and the world grows, our rules will evolve. We are committed to listening, revising, and rebuilding alongside you.
We aren’t just hosting a game server; we are defining what high-level, meaningful roleplay looks like. We are building this legacy together.
