CWD FIELD DISPATCH: Can The Infected Spread The Virus?

Author: Carl Silverhand | CWD News Sector: Deerisle & Surrounding Quarantine Zones Subject: AshBorne Virus – Non-Wound Contagion Pathways

Recent rumors circulating among survivors have raised a chilling question across the Deerisle sector: Are the infected themselves capable of transmitting the very virus that brought civilization to its knees?

Until now, surviving an encounter with the infected was a straightforward, albeit brutal, reality. Most encounters resulted in standard physical injuries. For the experienced survivor, a basic laceration was an accepted risk of life in the new world—painful, but easily managed with basic medical supplies and proper care.

However, new and unsettling reports are beginning to source from the deeper wooded areas.

The Anomaly of Transmission

Medical reports from field clinics have described encounters with a specific type of infected. At first glance, they appear no different from the standard rotting husks we avoid daily. But beyond a simple physical attack, survivors who successfully defend themselves are still falling ill.

Even a small number of these encounters can transmit something far more severe, proving that people need to stay on high alert. We are potentially looking at a Non-Wound Contagion Pathway.

At this time, no one has been able to clearly identify which specific type of infected is responsible for this ambient transmission. Descriptions vary drastically from camp to camp, and no consistent physical traits have been confirmed.

Clinical Case Study: Early Symptoms

If you or someone in your camp has engaged with the infected recently, watch closely for the following early-stage sickness indicators:

  • Sclera Discoloration: A distinct yellowing or bloodshot appearance in the whites of the eyes.
  • Rapid Deterioration Rashes: Sudden, aggressive skin irritation that does not stem from a direct scratch or bite.
  • Systemic Weakness: Sudden fever, chills, and a severe drop in physical stamina.

Sickness Spread: Field Medic Precautions

As CWD investigations continue, survivors are strictly advised to treat every encounter with heightened care. If you are forced into close-quarters combat with the infected, follow these protocols immediately after the engagement:

  1. Disinfect Wounds Immediately: Do not wait until you are back at camp. Use iodine or alcohol tinctures the moment the threat is neutralized.
  2. Take Vitamins and Tetra: Bolster your immune system preemptively. A course of Tetracycline combined with multivitamins has shown success in halting early-stage infection.
  3. Monitor Symptoms Closely: Isolate yourself from your pack if you begin to show signs of fever or weakness.
  4. Avoid Unnecessary Risks: Stealth is your greatest weapon. Do not engage unless absolutely necessary.

This is a developing story. CWD News will continue to monitor the clinical reports and update the survivor network as information becomes available.

Stay safe. Stay informed.
